A major breakthrough in crime-fighting was achieved this week as Tshwane District Commissioner, Major General Samuel Thine, led a successful high-density, multidisciplinary Operation Shanela along Solomon Mahlangu Road in Brooklyn, Tshwane.

During a coordinated roadblock, law enforcement officers apprehended over 50 undocumented individuals and arrested one suspect for possession of illegal drugs. The operation formed part of a broader crime-combating strategy aimed at improving public safety and increasing police visibility in the district.

Several police units—including the South African Police Service (SAPS), metro police, and provincial traffic authorities—worked together during the operation. Officers were seen actively engaging with motorists, inspecting vehicles, and verifying documents as part of the crackdown.

In addition to the roadblock arrests, provincial detectives carried out overnight tracing operations that resulted in the arrest of over 900 suspects. Of those arrested, 258 were detained for crimes committed against women and children—underscoring SAPS’s ongoing commitment to tackling gender-based violence and serious criminal offenses.

Major General Thine commended the teams involved and highlighted the importance of community participation in sustaining the fight against crime.

“These operations are crucial for reclaiming our communities and ensuring the safety of our people. We will continue to conduct high-density operations until every corner of Tshwane is safe,” said Thine.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities and continue supporting law enforcement as Operation Shanela intensifies across the province.
