Dalton Farmer Allegedly Kills Three Schoolchildren in Hit-and-Run

A tight-knit KwaZulu-Natal community has been left reeling after three primary school children were allegedly killed by a local farmer in a horrifying hit-and-run incident as they made their way to school.

According to eyewitnesses, the children were walking along a roadside path early in the morning when the farmer, driving a bakkie, ploughed into them and failed to stop. He then reportedly crashed his vehicle further down the road and fled the scene on foot.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the young victims, as efforts are still underway to notify the affected families.

Outrage within the community has deepened following reports that the suspect allegedly tried to silence the grieving families by offering them R20,000 and a few blankets—an offer widely condemned as offensive and grossly insensitive given the magnitude of the tragedy.

Local residents and activists are calling for swift and uncompromising justice. Many have described the incident as a “senseless act of negligence” and are demanding the suspect face the full consequences of the law.

Police have confirmed that the individual is known to authorities and that an investigation is ongoing. However, no official arrest has been confirmed at the time of publication.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has extended its condolences and announced that trauma counselling is being arranged for the victims’ classmates and teachers.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy. We cannot allow our children to be killed on their way to school and justice not be served,” said one emotional parent at the scene.

As the community grieves and calls for accountability, the country watches closely, demanding answers and action.
