MEC of Education Sipho Hlomuka briefing the media in Addington Primary School

The KZN MEC of Education Sipho Hlomuka called a media briefing on 29 January 2026 at Addington Primary School, this media briefing comes after the calls of organizations such as March and March Movement, Operation Dudula and MKP. Stating that Addington Primary School priorities illegal immigrants children.

It is said that some of the South African parents want to take their children out of the school and place them to another school, parents said their children are traumatized and they can't cope. Because the school is always flocked with police and organizations picketing outside the school.

Out of the 66 learners who wanted placement 5 of those learners passed grade 7, the miscalculation comes after parents failed to collect the learners report cards because parents owe some money to the school.

The MEC Hlomuka said "the school has provided evidence, that the allegations that school priorities foreign learners are not true" he added that this is a political move that aims to tarnish the image of ANC KZN.

He said this matter has been put to bed, there will be no learner that is not in school as per BELA ACT.
