The first police investigation indicates that the two suspects who died in a shootout with the police in Nhlungwane, iNanda, have connections with the West gang whose leader was recently killed in a similar shootout with the police. A few days ago, the police received information from the residents of Nanda, law enforcers in the area about suspects committing crimes in the area.

It is said that they had a gunfight with the police on Tuesday morning, after the intelligence unit tracked them down and surrounded them in the house where they were found. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, says that when the police announced their presence by knocking on the door, the suspects responded with gunfire and the police retaliated.

"During the shootout, two suspects were injured and died on the spot, one suspect was arrested who did not fight the police," he said.

He went on to say that two guns were found at the scene.
