A deeply disturbing case has come to light at a local school, where a 7-year-old girl, Cwecwe, was allegedly raped while waiting for her transport. The shocking allegations have sparked an intense investigation, with initial focus placed on the school's caretaker, driver, and principal.

Authorities have since cleared both the caretaker and driver, as they fully cooperated with the investigation. However, the principal's actions have raised significant suspicion, particularly his refusal to submit crucial evidence and alleged attempts to silence the victim's mother.

As a result of the school's handling of the case, the Eastern Cape education department has taken decisive action by deregistering an independent school in the Alfred Nzo West education district. Education MEC Fundile Gade emphasized that the decision followed the principal’s failure to cooperate with the police investigation, which raised serious concerns regarding student safety.

The school principal decided not to go for DNA testing. On top of that, he asked his private lawyers to represent him on an issue he can't explain," said Gade. "If you are not guilty, why not do a DNA test which will absolve you? Now you are being defensive without even being subjected."

The incident, which took place in October, remains unresolved, fueling public outrage. The school administration is under fire for its handling of the case, with many accusing it of prioritizing its reputation over student safety.

Community members are demanding justice for Cwecwe and accountability from those responsible. Authorities have reassured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be served.
