Daluxolo Mpofu Faces Disciplinary Inquiry Over Professional Misconduct
Prominent lawyer Daluxolo Mpofu is set to face a disciplinary inquiry over allegations of professional misconduct. He has been charged with seven counts of breaching the code of conduct governing legal practitioners in South Africa.
Mpofu, a well-known figure in both South African politics and law, previously served as the National Chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) from 2014. He has represented several high-profile clients, including former President Jacob Zuma and former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
The charges against Mpofu relate to actions and statements that allegedly harmed the reputations of others. His conduct during a Judicial Service Commission (JSC) interview has drawn particular criticism, with detractors claiming that his questioning style was inappropriate and brought the legal profession into disrepute.
Mpofu is scheduled to appear before the Legal Practice Council’s (LPC) disciplinary committee on April 30. The outcome of the inquiry could have serious consequences for his legal career and may influence broader discussions about ethics and accountability within the profession.
