Tsomo, Eastern Cape. A social media post has sparked public concern and calls for accountability after a Facebook user shared a disturbing scene witnessed in Tsomo village: a forensic pathology van and a funeral parlour vehicle exchanging bodies in the open veld. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, was captured in a now-viral post that included photos and a plea for clarification. The user tagged several news outlets and questioned the legality and ethics of the apparent handover.

Upon inquiry at the scene, the forensic team reportedly told a concerned individual that they were “busy with an exchange and admin process.” However, this explanation has done little to ease community worries. "Is this even allowed? Where is the dignity for our loved ones?" read one of the many concerned comments under the post.

Residents are demanding answers from the Eastern Cape Department of Health and relevant forensic services about standard procedures for handling deceased persons. Many say the incident has left them shaken, especially given the informal setting of the exchange. “Eyy azba ithini idata yababantu?” , voicing frustration over what many see as disrespect toward the dead. As of now, there has been no official statement from health authorities or law enforcement. Community members and activists are calling for an urgent investigation.
