Siemens CEO Agustin Escobar and Family Killed in New York Helicopter Crash
A sightseeing helicopter crash in New York has claimed the lives of six people, including Agustin Escobar, a senior executive at Siemens, and his family. The aircraft went down in the Hudson River on Thursday under challenging weather conditions, leaving no survivors.
Among the victims were three children, as well as the pilot, according to New York Mayor Eric Adams, who called the incident “heartbreaking and tragic.” The family had reportedly been on a sightseeing trip when the Bell 206 helicopter crashed near a tunnel vent in the river, its landing skids still visible above the surface as emergency vessels responded.
Authorities from both New York and New Jersey were dispatched to the crash site, working alongside fire department crews to recover all six bodies from the water. Two of the victims were initially taken to hospital but later died from their injuries.
Eyewitness Belle Angel described the moment the aircraft began spiraling uncontrollably before slamming into the river. “It looked like the rotor blade shattered in the sky,” she said.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the aircraft model and stated that the crash would be jointly investigated with the National Transportation Safety Board.
In a statement, Siemens expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Escobar and his family, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic helicopter crash in which Agustin Escobar and his family lost their lives.”
U.S. President Donald Trump also reacted to the incident on social media, calling the crash “terrible” and sharing condolences with the families of the victims.
Weather reports indicated thick cloud cover and gusty winds at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the helicopter's instability. NBC4 reported that even their news chopper was grounded due to the same adverse conditions.
Investigations are ongoing as officials work to determine the exact cause of the deadly crash.
