Veteran actor Don Mlangeni dies at 65
Veteran South African actor Don Mlangeni Nawa has passed away, leaving behind a legacy deeply etched into the hearts of millions. His family confirmed the sad news in a statement, marking the end of a remarkable era in South African television and theatre.
Nawa rose to iconic status with his beloved portrayal of Zeb Matabane on the SABC 3 soapie Isidingo, a role that earned him both critical acclaim and a loyal fanbase. Many also fondly remember him as Laqhasha, the streetwise and comedic character from the classic sitcom Sgudi ‘Snaysi, a staple in South African households during the 1980s and 1990s.
Following the news of his passing, fans, colleagues, and public figures have taken to social media to express their sorrow and celebrate his contributions to the arts. The African National Congress (ANC) also paid tribute, with Secretary General Fikile Mbalula saying in a statement on X:

The South African government also acknowledged his passing, honoring him as a "legendary actor and cultural icon" remembered for roles on S'gudi Snaysi, Isidingo: The Need, and Uzalo, among many others.
