MaMkhize’s Royal AM Kicked Out of the League Over Unpaid Debts and Missed Matches

In a dramatic development that has sent shockwaves through South African football, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially expelled Royal AM from the league, bringing an abrupt end to their top-flight participation. This follows a unanimous decision taken by the PSL’s Board of Governors, who gathered at the Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday morning to address the ongoing crisis surrounding the club.
Royal AM, owned by flamboyant businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, had been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons this season. From unpaid debts to multiple no-shows at scheduled fixtures, the club’s failure to comply with league obligations ultimately forced the League’s executive committee, led by Chairman Irvin Khoza, to recommend expulsion—a move that was fully endorsed by all 31 remaining professional clubs.
The decision was not contested by MaMkhize, who remained silent in the face of mounting criticism and administrative turmoil. With Royal AM having played just 11 matches this season in the Betway Premiership, the PSL has now declared all their results null and void. Points previously earned by or against Royal AM have been wiped from the standings, requiring an adjustment in the current league table.
As part of the fallout, the team currently placed 15th will now move into the relegation/promotion play-offs, with the league standardizing the number of matches played by all clubs to 28 by season’s end.
This marks a shocking fall from grace for Royal AM, who once captured headlines with their controversial entry into the PSL and their flashy, high-profile leadership. Now, with their expulsion official, the club faces an uncertain future as the league moves forward without them.
