Land Reform Expert Warns Expropriation Act Fails Young Farmers
Renowned legal scholar and author, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, has raised serious concerns about the Expropriation Act, arguing that it is failing young farmers who are struggling to access land for agricultural development.
Speaking at the Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba, Ngcukaitobi criticized the Act for being ineffective in addressing land reform demands, particularly for aspiring young farmers.
"The Expropriation Act is not just about policy; it's about justice," he stated. "We must recognize that land reform is a crucial step toward addressing the historical injustices of apartheid."
His remarks resonated with many young farmers present at the event, who expressed frustration over slow land redistribution and limited access to farming opportunities.
The indaba, which focused on empowering young farmers, featured panel discussions, keynote speeches, and breakout sessions, all aimed at tackling the challenges facing the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.
As debates over land reform intensify, Ngcukaitobi’s warning highlights the urgent need for meaningful policy changes to support young and emerging farmers in South Africa.
