As the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial reconvenes at the High Court in Pretoria, anticipation mounts with the forthcoming testimony of a ballistic expert. Charged with the murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain are five individuals, setting the stage for a legal showdown.

The tragic incident occurred in October 2014 when Meyiwa was fatally shot at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, located on the East Rand.

In the previous court session, Christopher Motlou, an e-Natis expert, concluded his testimony, setting the groundwork for the defense's preparation for the upcoming cross-examination of witnesses, as granted by Judge Ratha Mokgatlheng.

Matlou’s testimony had been pivotal, particularly in refuting the assertions made by accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, regarding his whereabouts between 2013 and 2015. Contrary to Sibiya's claims of being absent from Gauteng during that period, e-Natis records revealed his presence through applications for a learner’s license in Brakpan and Boksburg in 2014.

This revelation challenges Sibiya's narrative of leaving Gauteng in 2013 and returning only in 2015, adding layers of complexity to the trial. Defense counsel Thulani Mngomezulu conducted a rigorous cross-examination of Motlou, seeking to scrutinize and potentially undermine his testimony.

The resumption of the trial signals another chapter in the quest for justice for Senzo Meyiwa, with the impending testimony of the ballistic expert poised to provide further insights into the tragic events of that fateful day.
