In a major development for South African football, Premier Soccer League (PSL) chair Irvin Khoza announced today that Betway has been named the new sponsor of the Premiership. The announcement comes on the heels of DStv's withdrawal from its sponsorship deal a year before its planned conclusion.

During a press conference, Khoza stated, “As of this press conference, Betway is the new sponsor of the Premiership.” This marks a significant shift in the league's sponsorship landscape, bringing an end to DStv's brief tenure as the title sponsor.

When questioned about the specifics of the new sponsorship deal, Khoza revealed, “It's a three-year sponsorship for about R900 million.” This substantial investment underscores Betway's commitment to South African football and the continued growth of the Premiership.

DStv had stepped in as the league's sponsor in September 2020, replacing Absa, which had held the sponsorship for 13 years. As both the official broadcaster and title sponsor, DStv's partnership was initially set for five years. However, their unexpected early withdrawal opened the door for Betway to step in as the new sponsor.

Khoza also addressed concerns regarding the potential delay of the upcoming season due to the sponsorship transition. “I can tell you that the league is starting on August 3,” he confirmed, dispelling any rumors of postponement. In addition, Khoza announced that the fixtures for the season would be released later in the afternoon.

The new sponsorship deal with Betway is expected to bring fresh energy and opportunities to the league. Betway, a global sports betting company, is no stranger to sports sponsorships and has been involved in various sports partnerships worldwide.

This announcement marks a new chapter for the PSL, as the league continues to evolve and expand its reach both locally and internationally. Fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead as teams gear up for the August 3 kickoff, with Betway now playing a pivotal role in the league's future.

With the fixtures set to be announced soon, anticipation is building among fans and teams alike. The partnership with Betway is poised to enhance the Premiership's profile and offer new possibilities for engagement and growth in South African football.
