Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi create havoc in the political landscape

Pressure is mounting on President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action following a media outburst by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on Sunday in Durban, whereby he accused government officials of corruption.

Among those who have accused Mkhwanazi are Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya, the Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, who he accuses of interfering in police work and protecting high-ranking political suspects from the law. He has also accused the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of protecting criminals.

Deputy National Commissiner Lt General Shadrack Sibiya, denied Mkhwanazi's allegations, saying he would respond to them all once he has had a chance to properly review his statement. 

The Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu, said " we have become aware of what General Mkhwanazi said, I didn`t have time to look at the T.V. We will in good time apply our mind to those kind of statements"

Mr Makashule Gana of Rise Mzansi says that when Ramaphosa returns from the Brics summit in Brazil, the first thing he should do is address the country on this issue. The MK Party and the EFF are among the organizations calling for action to be taken against Mkhwanazi's speech. EFF leader Julius Malema is calling for the protection of Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. 

Mr Mpho Kwinika, of the Independent Policing Union of South Africa, has called on the National Police Commissioner, Gen Fannie Masemola, to come out and assure the country that all is well in the SAPS.
