Elder dies in a house fire

An elderly woman has died and three people have been seriously injured after a house on Edmundsbury Road, Belverdere, Tongaathi was engulfed in flames.

IPSS Medical Rescue responded to calls for assistance from members of the public after smoke was seen coming from the house. 

"We arrived and found three people who were pulled out of the fire with serious burns. A father and his son were found with serious burns to their bodies, while another woman was seriously injured due to abrasions," IPSS said in a statement.

Unfortunately, one woman had already died.

The fire was extinguished by the eThekwini Municipality fire department and all the injured were rushed to hospital. On behalf of the community, we would like to thank the local community who risked their lives to rescue those inside and called for help.
