South Africa Eyes Historic Olympic Bid — Government Confirms Talks to Host 2036 or 2040 Games as Cape Town Pushes Ahead

South Africa has opened the door to one of the most ambitious projects in its democratic history: hosting the 2036 or 2040 Summer Olympic Games. Government officials have confirmed early-stage discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), signalling a bold intention to bring the world’s biggest sporting event to African soil for the first time.

The renewed interest comes as several independent bodies, including the Cape Town–based CT2040 think tank, intensify their own feasibility research. Their findings align with a global shift in Olympic planning — one that favours sustainability, cost-efficiency and the repurposing of existing infrastructure. It’s a direction that plays directly into South Africa’s strengths.

With stadiums and transport systems built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the country already has a significant foundation. For Professor John Fourie, an economic historian at Stellenbosch University, this head start changes everything.

“We would want to see these beautiful stadiums that were built for the 2010 World Cup being used. There will need to be some creative thinking about an athletics stadium, but Cape Town already has almost all of the stadiums that we need,” Fourie says.

Beyond infrastructure, Fourie highlights three economic advantages that could redefine the region for a generation. An Olympic deadline forces long-delayed projects to break ground. Long-term policy stability—rare in the current climate—gives investors confidence. And a unified national objective compels government departments to pull in the same direction for the first time in years.

For the Western Cape, where rapid growth strains an already stretched infrastructure network, the Games could become the catalyst officials have been waiting for. “If we have a 10 to 15 year horizon, the Cape region certainly needs more investment in public infrastructure. This is a wonderful way to provide a catalyst for such investment and policy,” he explains.

Fourie argues that the real value of an Olympic bid has little to do with fireworks or ceremonies. Instead, it lies in the decades that follow — in the roads, rail, housing, energy upgrades and civic renewal that remain long after the athletes go home. Framed as industrial policy rather than a sporting spectacle, the bid becomes more than just an event. It becomes a nation-building strategy.

If South Africa moves forward, the world will watch closely to see whether the country can turn a daring Olympic dream into a transformative national project.

The trial of Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, officially began on Monday in the Durban High Court, marking a significant moment in South Africa’s effort to hold alleged instigators of the deadly July 2021 unrest accountable.

The proceedings, expected to run for two weeks, focus on Zuma-Sambudla’s social media activity during the violent unrest that left more than 350 people dead and caused massive economic damage, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal.

Frequently seen smiling as she entered the courtroom, Zuma-Sambudla faces three serious charges connected to posts she allegedly made during the national chaos.

Charge 1: Incitement to Commit Terrorism

Prosecutors allege that between 29 June and July 2021, she intentionally encouraged others to commit acts classified as terrorism under South African law.

Charge 2: Incitement to Commit Violence

The state claims she urged people to gather unlawfully with the intention of disturbing public order or violating the rights of others.

Charge 3: Violation of the Riotous Assemblies Act

The final charge relates to Section 17 of the Riotous Assemblies Act of 1956, which prohibits illegal gatherings aimed at sparking a riot.

According to the state, Zuma-Sambudla’s online statements played a central role in fuelling the country’s most destructive unrest since the end of apartheid.

Zuma Foundation Accuses State of Political Persecution

Hours before the trial began, the Jacob Zuma Foundation issued a scathing statement accusing the government of abusing its power and “persecuting” Zuma’s family for political reasons.

Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi said the charges against Zuma-Sambudla were “baseless” and politically driven.

“The latest target is President Zuma’s daughter, Ms Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, who now faces trial on baseless and politically motivated charges under the guise of ‘terrorism’,” Manyi said.

He argued that law-enforcement agencies have spent more than two decades attempting to “destroy President Zuma and those associated with him”.

Manyi further claimed that the case forms part of a “systematic campaign of political and familial harassment” against the Zuma family, comparing it to previous unsuccessful prosecutions involving Duduzane Zuma.

“Having failed to destroy the father and the son, the state has now turned its energies to the daughter,” he added.

The trial continues, with the state expected to lead evidence on how Zuma-Sambudla’s social media posts allegedly contributed to the unrest that brought South Africa to a standstill in July 2021.

Resilience in Motion: Limpopo Cyclists Arrive in Cape Town After 14&Day Journey

After an epic 14-day journey covering nearly 1,700 kilometres, three young men from Limpopo have officially arrived in the heart of Cape Town, completing a grueling cycling trip aimed at inspiring youth and steering them away from drugs.

The trio — Maxwell Ndou (24), Gauta Mahlakoane, and Karabo Mokoo — were greeted with cheers and applause as they entered the Cape Town city centre this morning. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis personally welcomed the group at the finish line, applauding their grit and determination.

Their journey, which began in Limpopo, saw them pass through the scenic yet demanding Du Toitskloof Pass, reaching the Huguenot Tunnel on Monday morning after a much-needed break in Laingsburg and Worcester over the weekend. The stopover allowed them to seek medical assistance, including physiotherapy, after a taxing two weeks on the road.

Ndou, who suffered a knee injury last week after falling off his bike, continued to power through despite renewed pain on Monday. After icing his injury and resting briefly, he insisted on getting back on the saddle to finish the ride.

“I wasn’t going to quit now,” said Ndou. “We’ve come too far, and this is bigger than just the three of us.”

His teammates, Mahlakoane and Mokoo, equally worn out from the long days of cycling, also took advantage of the break to recover and refocus.

To honour their incredible effort, the Limpopo government has organized a special welcome party at a hotel in the Cape Town City Bowl. Their visit will include a full itinerary of sightseeing activities, including trips to Robben Island, Table Mountain, and the V&A Waterfront — turning their achievement into an unforgettable experience.

Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba praised the trio’s accomplishment and said the province would support their future ambitions, including forming a cycling club to help other young people stay off the streets and away from drugs.

“What these young men have done is no ordinary matter,” said Ramathuba. “They have not just thought outside the box; they have kicked the box and redefined what is possible. Their courage and innovative spirit are a testimony to the potential of our youth.”

Their remarkable ride stands as a bold symbol of resilience, community spirit, and hope for a generation seeking purpose.

Bushiri Hits Back at Ndlozi’s Accusations

Controversy has erupted following remarks allegedly made by South African politician Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi during a recent public lecture in Malawi. Ndlozi is reported to have questioned, “Why am I rich?” in reference to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, prompting a strong and emotional response from the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) leader.

Bushiri, who has remained a polarizing figure across southern Africa, took to his official channels to address the incident, expressing dismay and frustration over what he perceives as continued political bullying—this time on Malawian soil.

I was astonished to hear that Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi attended a public lecture in Malawi and asked, ‘Why am I rich?’ Seriously, why?

He questioned the motivation behind Ndlozi’s inquiry, suggesting that it was less about accountability and more about targeted harassment driven by envy and xenophobia.

Can't these jealous, poorly rated politicians like him, with xenophobic tendencies, leave me alone at once? Why so much hate against me?

The spiritual leader, who fled South Africa in 2020 while facing legal challenges, emphasized that he would not tolerate the same kind of scrutiny and hostility in his homeland.

You can't bully me in South Africa and expect to do the same here at home. You can't advise Malawians to ask me questions about my wealth; they're not naive.

Bushiri also took a sharp jab at Ndlozi’s political affiliations, insinuating a betrayal of fellow politician Julius Malema, with whom Ndlozi had previously maintained close ties.

Turning to the question of wealth, Bushiri defended his financial success by highlighting his investments and community contributions.

Malawians know why I'm rich—I help the poor and create jobs. This past year alone, I created over 5,000 jobs at my farms and the Goshen City project.

He ended his message with a pointed remark aimed at South African political leaders:

And what about you in South Africa?

Bushiri’s response has ignited fresh debate on social media, drawing both support and criticism. While some praise his economic initiatives in Malawi, others continue to raise questions about his business dealings and past legal troubles.

As the conversation unfolds, one thing is clear: the relationship between Bushiri and South African politics remains as strained and complex as ever.

South Africa Unveils Advanced Drone and Body Camera Tech to Strengthen Border Security

In a landmark move to modernize and strengthen border control, Minister of Home Affairs Dr Leon Schreiber has launched an advanced set of surveillance tools for the Border Management Authority (BMA). This new development includes the rollout of four high-tech drones and 40 body-worn cameras, marking a significant investment in digital transformation and operational efficiency. The initiative will go live over the Easter weekend, aiming to provide real-time monitoring and enhanced law enforcement capabilities at key entry points.

The drones introduced are among the most sophisticated in the world. Each is equipped with cutting-edge night vision cameras and thermal imaging technology, powered by artificial intelligence. This enables them to automatically detect and follow heat sources, people, or moving vehicles, even in areas where GPS access is unavailable. With the ability to launch within 15 seconds and operate in all weather conditions—including underground or rural environments—these drones promise to be a game-changer for border patrol operations.

To support the drone program, eight officers are undergoing specialized training to become expert drone pilots. These officers will work in shifts, rotating across different ports throughout South Africa. Reinforcing this effort, the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform will contribute five additional drones for use during the Easter holiday period, continuing a successful partnership first established during the Festive Season.

Alongside the aerial surveillance enhancements, 40 body-worn cameras have been introduced for use by BMA officials stationed at ports of entry. These devices are intended to monitor performance, deter misconduct, and serve as a powerful tool against corruption. The footage from these cameras is managed through a secure Digital Evidence Management System, ensuring all recordings are court-admissible for use in potential legal proceedings.

Minister Schreiber emphasized the impact of these technologies, stating that the previous trial of drones during the Festive Season led to a dramatic 215% increase in successful interventions against illegal border crossings. With full-time deployment now underway, these technologies are expected to significantly reduce unlawful activities at the borders.

He delivered a firm warning to smugglers and those attempting to cross illegally, saying, “We are now watching the borderline during the day, we are watching at night, we can see your body heat wherever you try to hide, and we will catch you.” He added that the continued expansion of technology at the border leaves less room for illegal activities and increases accountability across the board.

This innovative rollout signals a new era in border management for South Africa, driven by cutting-edge technology and a renewed commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty.

The legal battle erupted after Education MEC Fundile Gade moved to deregister the school following the alleged rape of a seven-year-old pupil on school premises.
Nearly a year has passed since the tragic fire at the Usindiso Building in Marshalltown, which resulted in the loss of 76 lives. As the anniversary of the disaster approaches, 19 bodies remain unclaimed, causing prolonged heartache for many families still waiting to lay their loved ones to rest.

The delay stems from ongoing DNA testing required to accurately identify the victims. This process has been painstakingly slow, compounding the grief and suffering of the affected families.

Mametlwe Sebei, a representative of the Marshalltown Fire Justice Campaign, has spoken out against the protracted delay. “It is deeply distressing and unacceptable that families impacted by this tragedy have been denied closure and the fundamental human right to mourn their loved ones,” Sebei asserted.

Sebei also challenged the explanations provided for the delays, particularly the assertion that some bodies have not been claimed by relatives. “The government has not shown adequate commitment to investigating and confirming the identities of the victims. It’s incorrect to say they were unknown to other survivors,” he said. Sebei mentioned that some survivors have been deported or have left the city, which has added complexity to the identification process.

He urged the Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services and the Gauteng Department of Health to speed up the DNA testing. “Families should not have to wait over a year to bury their loved ones. This delay is unjustifiable and undermines the dignity and rights of both the deceased and their grieving families,” Sebei insisted.

In response, Gauteng health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba confirmed that the necessary post-mortem examinations have been completed. He indicated that the responsibility now lies with the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory and the victim identification center. “The DNA sampling, collection of family reference samples, and the actual DNA analysis and identification process is managed exclusively by these authorities,” Modiba explained.

Modiba denied any claims of a backlog in post-mortem examinations, emphasizing that the department has efficiently managed its role in the process. “Any questions regarding the DNA identification should be directed to the SAPS, as they are the authority handling this aspect of the victim identification,” he concluded.

As families continue to endure this agonizing wait, the community remains burdened by the aftermath of the disaster. The 19 unclaimed bodies are a stark reminder of the urgent need for a timely and compassionate resolution, allowing the bereaved to finally find peace and closure.

Popular cryptocurrency billionaire Linus Williams, widely known as Blord, has been granted bail after spending three days in police custody. The news was revealed by controversial self-proclaimed social media activist VeryDarkMan, who shared the update on his Instagram page on Friday.

Blord's arrest was initially announced by VeryDarkMan, who claimed that the cryptocurrency mogul was apprehended on allegations of fraud and terrorism funding. The news quickly gained traction, sparking widespread discussions and speculation on social media.

In a recent post that has since gone viral, VeryDarkMan provided an update on Blord's situation. He revealed that Blord was released after considerable "begging and crying." VeryDarkMan added a stern warning, stating that Blord is expected to return next week to answer for the alleged crimes. He expressed confidence that the Nigerian Police Force’s Cybercrime Unit (NPF NCCC) will ensure that justice is served, saying, "After much begging and crying Blord is out and he will be going back next week to answer for all his alleged crimes. I believe the @npf_nccc will not compromise and justice will be upheld. See you next week Mr. Influential."

The Blord Group, the organization associated with Linus Williams, has debunked the allegations surrounding his arrest. They clarified that Blord was not arrested but merely invited for questioning. This statement aims to dispel the rumors and provide a clearer picture of the events that transpired.

The public reaction to Blord's arrest and subsequent release has been mixed. While some people express relief at his release, others are concerned about the serious nature of the allegations and the potential implications for the cryptocurrency industry.

As the story continues to develop, all eyes are on Blord and the forthcoming legal proceedings. The outcome of these allegations could have significant repercussions for Blord and his ventures, as well as for the broader cryptocurrency community in Nigeria.

SARS Advocate shot Amidst MaMkhize Tax Controversy

In a shocking incident, Senior Advocate Coreth Naudé, representing the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in a high-profile case against businesswoman and media personality Shauwn Mkhize, popularly known as “MaMkhize,” has been critically injured in a shooting. The incident occurred as Naudé arrived at her hotel near the Gateway shopping centre.

According to reports from News24, Naudé was ambushed by unidentified assailants who fired multiple shots, hitting her in the upper body. She was immediately rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she remains in critical condition.

The attack comes amidst a legal battle in which SARS seeks to attach MaMkhize’s fleet of luxury vehicles as part of efforts to recover more than R37 million in unpaid taxes. MaMkhize’s security team and armed guards had previously thwarted attempts by attorneys to seize these vehicles. Members of the KZNVIP security team, who were on routine patrol, responded swiftly to the scene after hearing multiple gunshots. It is believed that the assailants targeted Naudé as her vehicle entered the hotel parking area. The suspects fled in a silver 2020 Toyota Corolla, which is being used as a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Emergency responders from KZNVIP Medics, Netcare 911, and IPSS were on the scene to stabilize the critically injured Naudé before transporting her to a medical facility. All relevant emergency services were in attendance, and police investigations are currently underway.

MaMkhize, the owner of the Royal AM soccer team, is no stranger to controversy. The business mogul is embroiled in another tax scandal that threatens her luxurious assets. She reportedly owes SARS over R37 million in unpaid taxes, a situation exacerbated by a history of tax disputes. In 2020, SARS successfully obtained a liquidation order against her cleaning company for R200,000 in unpaid taxes.

Mkhize, who amassed her wealth through numerous government tenders for low-cost housing projects in KwaZulu-Natal, has been under scrutiny from both SARS and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) since 2013. Recent reports from the City Press indicate that SARS has filed an execution application to attach 13 of Mkhize’s vehicles, including a Lamborghini and Rolls Royce owned by the Shandi Trust and her soccer team. If the court grants the order, all vehicles belonging to the Shandi Trust, where Mkhize is the primary shareholder, must be surrendered to SARS within seven days. Efforts by SARS curators to access Mkhize’s property this week were unsuccessful, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing saga.

As the investigation into the shooting of Advocate Naudé continues, the legal and financial troubles of Shauwn Mkhize remain in the spotlight, raising questions about the lengths individuals will go to protect their assets and avoid accountability.

Thousands of Western Cape Residents Still Without Power Due to Recent Disruptive Weather Conditions That Caused Floods

The Western Cape is grappling with the aftermath of severe weather conditions that have left over 10,000 residents without power. The region has been hit by unprecedented storms, causing extensive flooding and infrastructure damage, severely impacting daily life.

The recent storms, described by meteorologists as among the most severe in recent history, brought torrential rain, strong winds, and significant flooding to the area. The deluge overwhelmed drainage systems, leading to widespread waterlogging and inundation of homes and businesses. Rivers and dams, already swollen by previous rains, burst their banks, exacerbating the flooding.

The South African Weather Service issued warnings in advance, but the intensity of the storms still caught many by surprise. Emergency services have been working around the clock to assist those affected, with rescue operations being carried out in several areas where people were trapped by rising waters. Helicopters and boats have been deployed to reach those stranded in remote or inaccessible locations.

Electricity supply has been one of the major casualties of the storm. Power lines were brought down by falling trees and debris, and substations were flooded, disrupting the electricity grid. Eskom, the primary electricity supplier, along with municipal power utilities, has been working tirelessly to restore power. However, the extent of the damage means that many areas remain without electricity, adding to the challenges faced by residents.

The lack of power has had a domino effect on other services. Water purification plants, which rely on electricity to operate, have been affected, leading to water supply issues in some areas. Communication networks have also been disrupted, making it difficult for residents to stay informed and for emergency services to coordinate their efforts effectively.

The Western Cape Government has declared a state of disaster in the affected areas, unlocking additional resources and support from the national government. Premier Alan Winde has assured residents that every possible effort is being made to restore normalcy, but he has also called for patience and cooperation from the public as recovery efforts continue.

Community centers and shelters have been set up to accommodate those who have been displaced by the floods. These centers are providing essential services, including food, water, and medical care. Volunteers and non-governmental organizations have rallied to support the affected communities, demonstrating the resilience and solidarity of the Western Cape's residents in the face of adversity.

The economic impact of the floods is expected to be significant. Many businesses have suffered damage to their premises and stock, and the disruption to power and water supply has forced some to halt operations temporarily. Agriculture, a critical sector in the Western Cape, has also been hard hit, with fields submerged and crops destroyed.

As the immediate crisis begins to subside, attention will turn to the long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts. Authorities are already assessing the damage and planning the repair and reinforcement of infrastructure to prevent similar disasters in the future. This includes upgrading drainage systems, reinforcing riverbanks, and ensuring that new buildings are constructed to withstand extreme weather conditions.

For now, the priority remains restoring essential services and providing support to those affected. The Western Cape is facing a challenging period, but with the combined efforts of government, businesses, and the community, it is hoped that the region will recover and emerge stronger from this disaster.

Schools Open for Term 3 Amid Winter Weather

As the winter chill settles over South Africa, schools across the country are resuming for Term 3. The colder weather brings unique challenges and opportunities for both students and educators. As schools open their doors once again, there is a palpable sense of anticipation and determination to make the most of the new term despite the seasonal hurdles.

The return to school during the winter months means that students and teachers need to adapt to the colder temperatures. Classrooms may be chilly in the mornings, prompting many to bundle up in layers of clothing. It becomes essential for schools to ensure that heating systems are functioning properly and that classrooms remain warm and conducive to learning. Parents play a crucial role in this adjustment period by providing their children with appropriate winter clothing, including jackets, scarves, and gloves.

Colder weather often brings about an increase in common illnesses such as colds and flu, which can affect attendance and overall school performance. Schools are likely to place a renewed emphasis on health and hygiene practices, encouraging regular handwashing and the use of hand sanitizers. Some institutions may implement temperature checks and other precautionary measures to prevent the spread of illness. The health of students and staff remains a top priority, and communities must work together to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

Amid the cold, there are still numerous opportunities for engagement and enrichment. Teachers can incorporate winter-themed activities into their lesson plans, using the season as a springboard for creative and interactive learning experiences. For instance, science lessons might explore the physics of snow and ice, while literature classes could delve into winter-inspired poetry and stories. Extracurricular activities, such as sports and clubs, also continue, though they may require adjustments to accommodate the weather.

The return to school for Term 3 is not only about academic pursuits but also about fostering a sense of community and support. Students reconnect with their peers, share holiday stories, and re-establish their routines. This social interaction is vital for their emotional and mental well-being, providing a sense of normalcy and stability. Educators, too, benefit from this renewed connection with their students, as they guide and support them through the academic challenges and achievements of the term.

As South African schools resume in the midst of winter, the focus remains on resilience and adaptability. The colder weather, while challenging, also offers an opportunity for growth and learning. With careful planning, support from parents and the community, and a commitment to health and safety, Term 3 promises to be a productive and enriching time for all involved.

Cavin Johnson Axed as Kaizer Chiefs Take Drastic Action

Cavin Johnson has been shown the door as Kaizer Chiefs announce his departure, marking a significant step in the club's restructuring efforts. Johnson, who initially served as the head of the academy, took on the role of caretaker coach during the 2023-24 season following the exit of Molefi Ntseki. Despite his efforts, the team faced ongoing challenges in securing positive results. Johnson's tenure saw the club struggle to meet the high expectations set by both the management and the fans, leading to the decision to part ways with him.

During his brief stint as caretaker coach, Johnson attempted to instill a sense of discipline and tactical acumen in the squad. However, the results on the pitch did not reflect his hard work, as the team continued to falter in crucial matches. The club's inconsistent performances and inability to secure a top-four finish added to the mounting pressure on Johnson. The fans, known for their unwavering support, began to express their frustrations, highlighting the need for a more experienced and effective leader at the helm.

Kaizer Chiefs have expressed their gratitude for Johnson's contributions, acknowledging his dedication during a difficult period. They wished him well in his future endeavors, signaling the end of his chapter with the team. The club's statement emphasized the importance of restructuring and adapting to new strategies to achieve long-term success. This decision is part of a broader plan to overhaul the team's management and coaching staff, ensuring that the club is better positioned to compete at the highest level.

Looking ahead, the club is expected to announce the appointment of 58-year-old Tunisian Nasreddine Nabi as the new head coach. This move is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the team and improve their performance. Nabi's extensive experience, particularly in North African football, is seen as a valuable asset that could bring a fresh perspective to Kaizer Chiefs. His track record of success with previous clubs and his ability to develop young talent make him a promising candidate for the role.

Nabi's coaching philosophy focuses on a balanced approach, combining solid defensive strategies with creative attacking play. His emphasis on teamwork and discipline is expected to resonate well with the players, potentially leading to a more cohesive and effective unit on the field. The club's management believes that Nabi's arrival will not only enhance the team's tactical capabilities but also inspire a renewed sense of confidence and ambition among the players.

The departure of Cavin Johnson and the anticipated arrival of Nasreddine Nabi mark the beginning of a new era for Kaizer Chiefs. Fans remain hopeful that these changes will lead to a resurgence in the club's fortunes, aiming for a return to their former glory as one of South Africa's premier football teams. The restructuring process is expected to involve further changes in the coaching staff and player roster, with a focus on building a team capable of competing for titles domestically and in continental competitions.

As Kaizer Chiefs embark on this new journey, the club's leadership is committed to creating a sustainable model for success. This includes investing in youth development, enhancing training facilities, and adopting modern sports science techniques. The goal is to create a holistic environment that nurtures talent and fosters a winning mentality. With the support of their passionate fan base, the club is determined to reclaim its status as a dominant force in South African football.

The upcoming season will be a crucial period for Kaizer Chiefs as they implement these changes and strive for immediate impact.
Cape Town, South Africa - In a decisive victory, Cyril Ramaphosa has been reelected as the President of South Africa. The announcement was made during the first seating of the 7th National Assembly, currently taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (ICC), following the fire that rendered the traditional Parliament building unusable.

Ramaphosa’s reelection signals continued support for his leadership within the African National Congress (ANC) and among the members of the National Assembly. His presidency, marked by efforts to combat corruption and revive the South African economy, will now continue with renewed mandate and focus.

The election took place amidst the extraordinary circumstances of the Parliament's temporary relocation to the ICC. Despite these challenges, the process was carried out smoothly, demonstrating the robustness of South Africa’s democratic procedures.

In his acceptance speech, President Ramaphosa expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of South Africa. He outlined his vision for the future, emphasizing the importance of economic recovery, job creation, and the fight against corruption. “I am deeply honored by this opportunity to continue serving our nation. Together, we will work to build a South Africa that is just, inclusive, and prosperous,” Ramaphosa stated.

As he embarks on his new term, Ramaphosa faces several significant challenges. The South African economy is still grappling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and issues such as unemployment, inequality, and corruption remain pressing concerns. His administration will need to address these issues head-on to ensure sustainable development and social stability.

Ramaphosa’s reelection has been met with mixed reactions. Supporters praise his dedication to reform and his efforts to steer the country towards economic recovery. Critics, however, argue that more needs to be done to address systemic issues and call for greater transparency and accountability in his administration.

Globally, Ramaphosa’s reelection has been viewed positively, with international leaders expressing their congratulations and support. His continued presidency is seen as a stabilizing factor for South Africa, which plays a critical role in the African continent’s politics and economy.

As President Ramaphosa begins his new term, the expectations are high. His ability to navigate the complex political landscape, implement effective policies, and deliver tangible results will be crucial. The coming years will be pivotal in determining South Africa’s trajectory and its position on the global stage.

In conclusion, Cyril Ramaphosa's reelection as President of South Africa during the first seating of the 7th National Assembly at the Cape Town ICC marks a significant moment in the country's political history. With renewed mandate and focus, Ramaphosa’s leadership will be crucial in addressing the economic and social challenges facing South Africa. As the nation moves forward, the hopes and aspirations of its people rest on his ability to deliver on his promises and build a brighter future for all South Africans.

In the wake of the African National Congress (ANC) losing 71 seats in last week's election, long-serving ministers Naledi Pandor, Bheki Cele, Thandi Modise, and Thulas Nxesi are among those who will not be making a return to Parliament. The reduction in seats has resulted in these prominent figures not making the cut on the list published by the Electoral Commission of South Africa on Wednesday.

The list of designated members will be handed to the chief justice in a special ceremony on Thursday, marking a significant reshuffle within the ANC’s parliamentary representation. This comes as the party grapples with the fallout of its diminished majority, reflecting a substantial shift in South Africa’s political landscape.

Naledi Pandor, known for her tenure as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Bheki Cele, the erstwhile Minister of Police, Thandi Modise, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, and Thulas Nxesi, who served as the Minister of Employment and Labour, all face the end of their long careers in Parliament. Their absence signals a potential shift in the ANC’s policy direction and priorities as the party adjusts to its new status.

Adding to the turbulence within the party, Zizi Kodwa’s future as a Member of Parliament (MP) remains uncertain following his appearance in court on corruption charges on Wednesday. Kodwa also resigned from his position as sports, arts, and culture minister, casting further doubt on his political future.

On Thursday, the secretary to Parliament will receive the list of designated members from the chief justice, setting the stage for the first sitting of the new house. This procedural step is crucial for the official transition and the commencement of parliamentary activities under the newly elected representatives.

The ANC’s significant loss in the election has not only reduced its majority but also signals the end of the political road for many of its seasoned politicians. The new composition of Parliament will undoubtedly influence the future political dynamics and legislative agenda in South Africa.

As the ANC navigates this period of change, the exclusion of these veteran ministers highlights the beginning of a new era. The party’s ability to adapt and respond to the evolving political environment will be crucial in determining its future role and effectiveness in South African politics.

Is South Africa Heading Towards Re&Election? Accusations of Vote Rigging Mount

The ongoing South African election has been thrown into turmoil as allegations of vote rigging and tampering have emerged, raising the prospect of a re-election. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is under intense scrutiny after reports surfaced of tampered count sheets from various voting stations. These reports claim mismatched numbers were intended to favor an ANC and DA coalition, allegedly depriving the EFF and MK Party of their rightful votes.

Residents and political parties are voicing their dissatisfaction, accusing the IEC of compromising the integrity of the election. The controversy is further fueled by the IEC's results dashboard going offline for two hours during the vote capture process, which has led to numerous unanswered questions about the transparency of the electoral process. The IEC has acknowledged receiving over 100 objections related to the vote count, adding to the escalating conflict.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that a case of tampering with IEC material has been opened in Gauteng, although no arrests have been made at this time. The situation remains tense as the nation awaits further developments.

By the time of this publication, 92.77% of the votes have been counted, showing the ANC at 40.90%, the DA at 21.59%, the MK Party at 13.95%, and the EFF at 9.48%. These figures suggest a significant shift in the political landscape, but the allegations of fraud have cast a shadow over the results.

The mounting accusations and objections highlight the critical need for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure the integrity of the election. As the IEC grapples with these challenges, the possibility of a re-election looms, potentially reshaping the future of South African politics.

EFF Followers Criticize Malema's Policies as Vote Count Progresses

As the election count advances, some supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are voicing their frustration, attributing the party's electoral setbacks to leader Julius Malema's controversial stance on immigration and open borders. With the MK Party now in third place at 9.38% and the EFF trailing at 8.88%, the internal dissent reflects deeper concerns about the party's strategic direction and policy choices.

EFF's Open Border Policy Under Scrutiny

Julius Malema's advocacy for open borders and a more inclusive approach to immigration has been a hallmark of the EFF's platform. While this policy is rooted in principles of pan-Africanism and solidarity with foreign nationals, it appears to have alienated a segment of the electorate worried about the socio-economic implications of such measures.

Critics within the party argue that Malema's stance on immigration has cost the EFF crucial votes, particularly in an election marked by heightened concerns over unemployment, economic inequality, and social cohesion. The sentiment among these disillusioned followers is that the party's focus on foreign nationals overshadowed pressing domestic issues, leading to a loss of support among voters prioritizing national stability and job security.

Impact on EFF's Electoral Performance

The dissatisfaction among EFF supporters suggests a potential misalignment between the leadership's vision and the priorities of the party's base. This internal critique could prompt a reassessment of the EFF's policy platform and campaign strategies in future elections.

As the vote counting continues, the party's immediate challenge will be to address these concerns and restore confidence among its supporters. The EFF's ability to engage in meaningful dialogue with its base and adapt its policies to reflect voter priorities will be crucial for its long-term relevance and success.

Broader Electoral Context

The election has so far been notable for the ANC's decline to 43.35% of the vote, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) at 24.68%. The MK Party's rise to 9.38% highlights the dynamic nature of South African politics and the electorate's willingness to consider new political alternatives.

The unfolding election results underscore the complex interplay of policy, leadership, and voter sentiment in shaping electoral outcomes. Julius Malema and the EFF face a critical juncture as they navigate the fallout from this election and the internal debates it has sparked. How the party responds to this feedback and recalibrates its approach will significantly influence its future trajectory in South African politics.

In the midst of the charged atmosphere preceding the imminent elections, a significant development has emerged within the MK Party. Mr. Jabulani Khumalo, the party's founder, has sent shockwaves through political circles by demanding the removal of Mr. Jacob Zuma as the party's president and the eradication of his image from the ballot paper.

The Electoral Commission confirmed the reception of Mr. Khumalo's communication on May 7, 2024. The letter, representing the stance of the MK Party, swiftly found its way onto various social media platforms. Within its contents, Mr. Khumalo adamantly insists that the Electoral Commission take action to oust Mr. Zuma from his prominent roles within the party, referring to him as the "face of MKP" and the president of the MK Party.

Despite the fervent plea from Mr. Khumalo, the Electoral Commission maintains its stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of political parties. It reiterates its policy of acting solely upon the directives of the registered leader of the party. In the present situation, Mr. Jacob Zuma holds the status of the registered leader of the MK Party, a position he has occupied since April 10, 2024.

This demand for Mr. Zuma's removal comes against a backdrop of historical friction between Mr. Khumalo and Mr. Zuma within the MK Party. The recent registration of Mr. Zuma as the party's leader reportedly necessitated legal intervention, underscoring the depth of discord within the party's ranks.

As the elections draw nearer, the timing of Mr. Khumalo's call for Mr. Zuma's removal injects a new layer of complexity into the political landscape. The internal strife within the MK Party, now thrust into the public eye, threatens to overshadow the party's electoral campaign and raises concerns about its unity and coherence in the eyes of the electorate.

Amidst this turbulent atmosphere, the outcome of the ongoing dispute within the MK Party remains uncertain. With the Electoral Commission standing firm on its policy of non-interference, the party must navigate these internal challenges independently as it prepares for the impending elections.

As the aircraft taxied down the runway, anticipation soared among passengers and crew alike, eager to witness the beginning of a new era in air travel between the two continents. With Perth as the final destination, the flight promised not only to bridge the geographical distance but also to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between South Africa and Australia.

The decision to launch direct flights between Johannesburg and Perth comes as a testament to SAA's commitment to expanding its global reach and enhancing connectivity for travelers. By eliminating the need for layovers or connecting flights, the new route offers passengers a seamless and convenient travel experience, saving both time and hassle.

Upon arrival at Perth Airport, the atmosphere was nothing short of jubilant as South Africans living in Australia eagerly awaited the arrival of their fellow compatriots. The sight of the SAA aircraft touching down on Australian soil sparked a sense of pride and unity among the diaspora community, reaffirming the strong bonds that connect South Africa and Australia.

In addition to fostering personal connections, the direct flight between Johannesburg and Perth holds immense potential for boosting tourism and trade between the two countries. With South Africa's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty on one end and Australia's diverse landscapes and vibrant cities on the other, the new route opens up endless possibilities for travelers seeking adventure and exploration.

As the inaugural flight marks the beginning of a new chapter in air travel between South Africa and Australia, it also serves as a reminder of the resilience and adaptability of the aviation industry in the face of challenges. Despite the turbulence caused by the global pandemic, SAA's determination to forge ahead and expand its route network underscores its unwavering commitment to serving passengers and connecting distant corners of the world.

Looking ahead, the success of the inaugural flight paves the way for greater collaboration and partnership between South African and Australian authorities, airlines, and stakeholders. By working together, they can continue to enhance air connectivity, promote tourism, and strengthen bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.

In conclusion, South African Airways' inaugural direct flight to Perth represents more than just a journey from one point to another—it symbolizes the power of aviation to bring people together, transcend borders, and create new opportunities for growth and prosperity. As the sun sets on this historic day, passengers disembark with memories of a journey that not only connected continents but also hearts and minds.

In a rollercoaster season marred by inconsistency, Kaizer Chiefs find themselves grappling with yet another bitter pill to swallow. Their recent clash against Richards Bay saw them endure yet another goalless defeat, compounding their woes in the DSTV Premiership.

The match started with high hopes for the Amakhosi faithful, but those hopes were dashed when Simpiwe scored for Richards Bay at the 64th minute mark. Despite their efforts, Kaizer Chiefs failed to find the back of the net, leaving their supporters frustrated and disheartened.

This defeat comes at a critical juncture for Kaizer Chiefs, as they gear up to face Supersport United on Saturday, April 27th, followed by a daunting encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, April 30th. With each passing game, the pressure mounts on the shoulders of the players and coaching staff to turn their fortunes around.

The consequences of this loss are stark. Kaizer Chiefs have now plummeted from position 8 to position 10 in the league standings. Such a decline is alarming for a club of their stature, known for their rich history and passionate fanbase.

What makes this defeat particularly agonizing is the fact that it came at the hands of Richards Bay, a team fighting tooth and nail to stave off relegation. It underscores the unpredictable nature of football and serves as a wake-up call for Kaizer Chiefs to address the shortcomings that have plagued them throughout the season.

In the aftermath of this setback, introspection is necessary for Kaizer Chiefs. They must regroup, analyze their performance, and identify areas for improvement. With crucial fixtures on the horizon, there is no room for complacency.

For the supporters who bleed black and gold, these are trying times. Yet, amidst the disappointment, there remains a glimmer of hope. Football is a game of resilience and redemption. Kaizer Chiefs have the talent and the pedigree to bounce back from adversity. It's now up to them to rise to the occasion and reclaim their rightful place among the elite of South African football.

As the dust settles on their defeat to Richards Bay, Kaizer Chiefs must channel their frustration into determination. The road ahead is fraught with challenges, but with unity, perseverance, and a steadfast belief in their abilities, they can emerge stronger than ever before.

Mamelodi Sundowns Stunned by Esperance in CAF Champions League Semifinal First Leg

In a pulsating encounter at the Olympic Stadium, Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a setback in their quest for continental glory as they succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Esperance Sportive de Tunis in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semifinal.

The decisive moment arrived in the 41st minute when Yan Sasse capitalized on a momentary lapse in concentration from the Sundowns defense to slot home what proved to be the only goal of the match. Despite Sundowns' valiant efforts to find an equalizer, Esperance held firm to secure a vital victory on their home turf.

From the outset, both teams showcased their intent to seize control of the encounter. Sundowns, boasting an impressive array of talent and experience, looked to impose their trademark possession-based style on the match. However, Esperance remained resolute in defense, thwarting the Sundowns' attacking forays with disciplined organization and tenacity.

As the match progressed, the tension mounted, with both sets of supporters urging their respective teams forward. Sundowns came close on several occasions, with Gastón Sirino and Peter Shalulile spearheading their attacking endeavors. However, Esperance's defensive resilience proved to be an insurmountable obstacle for the visitors.

The breakthrough arrived just before halftime when Esperance capitalized on a rare defensive lapse from Sundowns. Sasse, alert and composed, pounced on the opportunity, dispatching a clinical finish past the Sundowns goalkeeper to send the home crowd into raptures.

Undeterred by the setback, Sundowns emerged for the second half with renewed determination, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. However, Esperance remained compact and organized, frustrating their opponents with a disciplined defensive display.

Despite Sundowns' best efforts, they were unable to breach Esperance's defense, with the Tunisian side holding firm to secure a crucial 1-0 victory heading into the second leg.

The focus now shifts to the pivotal second leg, which is set to take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, the fortress of Mamelodi Sundowns, on Friday, April 26th. With the tie finely poised, Sundowns will be eager to overturn the deficit and book their place in the final of the CAF Champions League.

As the anticipation builds for the decisive clash, Mamelodi Sundowns will be banking on their home advantage and the passionate support of their fans to propel them to victory and keep their continental dreams alive. In what promises to be a captivating encounter, Sundowns will leave no stone unturned as they seek redemption and glory on the grandest stage of African club football.
